Finding Hope in Faith: 3 Uplifting Tips for Christians Battling Depression

I've been reading in Job and my heart has been burdened for those struggling with depression. I've been there... sometimes life gets too heavy and the weight drags you down. I've done the numb yourself from life by building walls, I've done the die inside so that they can't hurt you anymore, I've done the feeling stuck and hopeless...
and God has been faithful each time.
Job lost everything and he felt hopeless. He wanted to die, and didn't understand why God wouldn't just take him out too and end his suffering.
Job couldn't see the double portion that he would receive on the other side of his current season.
And if you are in a season of depression, I bet you can't either.
The truth is, if you're struggling with depression, then there is probably nothing I can say to bump you right out of it. Sometimes we don't get out until we get out.
It's why I believe that God still works miracles. It's a miracle that Job made it through and now years and years later we're reading about his double portion and how God blessed him after everything.
and it will be a miracle when God gets you through to the other side too. I say WHEN because I know that God WILL GET YOU THROUGH.
But in the meantime, while you're waiting in the middle, here are 3 practical things you can do:
Drink Water... each time you feel like you can't go on, drink a glass of water. Hot water, warm water, cold water... it doesn't matter to me, but drink some water. 75% of your brain tissue is water, and research shows that even slight levels of dehydration can have an impact on your mood because our brain drives our moods.
Get Outside... I know it's like, the last thing you want to do when you're depressed, but studies show that exposure to green spaces releases serotonin, the same neurotransmitter present in the most common antidepressant medications. Even just getting outside for 10 minutes when you feel the weight becoming too much can help. Try it for yourself.

Listen to a Worship Song... Words matter. The psychology of music has been recognized and studied since ancient times, with Plato theorizing that different styles of music stirred different emotions in listeners. If music can stir different emotions, no wonder listening to a life-giving worship song can create peace and help with your mental health. Here are a few of my favorites when I'm needing a dose of hope:
I don't know your story, but I know that God is with you, He is fighting for you, and He will hold you through whatever place you are in. He's got you in the palm of His hand, and I'm holding belief for you that you will see God's goodness again.
