Restoring Vision When Life Beats You Down

It's easy to be a visionary when life hasn't really hit you yet. It's a lot harder to hold vision when life feels heavy and hard. How do we move forward with Heavenly vision, when each day we are constantly facing the negativity, pain, and heartbreak we endure here?

Have you ever experienced a hard or painful season?

Are you currently struggling to keep your head above water?

Maybe you aren't in a painful place exactly, but the daily grind of life seems daunting. I mean, who has time to hold vision for life when your days are already full of laundry, activities, and dirty diapers?

The reality is, life has a way of making the vision look a little blurry and distant.

But God has so much more for you than to just survive this life.

If you are in Christ, you are championed to live in a manner worthy of the gospel. The gospel that set you free. The gospel that put the same power that raised Christ from the dead inside of you. The gospel that freed you from yourself and from your sin.

How do we live a life worthy of the gospel when we are barely surviving? Why are we barely surviving anyway?

In the NLT version of Job 15:12 we see one of Job's friend ask the question

"What has taken away your reason? What has weakened your vision?"

This verse let's me know a few things.

  1. We all have things that take away our reason/weaken our vision in life.

  2. We all can get off track.

It's easy to be a visionary when life hasn't really hit you yet. It's a lot harder to hold vision when life feels heavy and hard.

How do we move forward with Heavenly vision, when each day we are constantly facing the negativity, pain, and heartbreak we endure here?

Job lost everything. He lost his family, his health, even the relationships he had left were rocky. He had a fearful respect for

God, but didn't understand how God could have put him here in this position.

Job's friend asked him, "Is God’s comfort too little for you? Is his gentle word not enough?" and honestly, maybe in that moment God's comfort didn't feel in reach. Maybe in that moment, a gentle word from God felt like it wouldn't come because it felt a lot like God was dishing out blow after blow... you know, the whole "when it rains it pours" scenario.

Life has a way of rocking us, and I don't know the answer to your pain.

I do know that when we don't have an answer, we are just called to stand on truth.

"We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. "

2 Corinthians 4:8-10

So if you've lost vision because life is heavy, here are 3 things to do to reset:

  1. Pray.

Pray messy, pray crying, pray without words if you have to but just pray. Heart posture turned towards the Father even when words won't come is enough.

  1. Let a life-giving person in.

It could be a friend, a pastor, a counselor, but let someone in who exudes joy and abundant faith. Listen, it's important to find people who have can encourage you. Opening up could be a doorway back to vision. In Habakkuk, there is someone who goes to the watch post to watch for the enemy. This person is standing guard, watching for blind spots that those on the ground can't see. Sometimes you need someone to stand on the watch post for you as you do the work to get up off of the ground.

  1. Find a community.

If you aren't connected to a community of people, it's a lot harder to walk through the messy. Find a group locally or digitally but connect somewhere with fellow believers. There is power in numbers.

God will restore your vision. You aren't a lost cause. Pray. Find your People. Walk through it. God will meet you where you are.
